President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived back in Abuja on Saturday following his participation in the Aqaba Process Heads of State Meeting held in Rome, Italy. The summit, focused on regional security and counterterrorism cooperation, brought together leaders from across Africa and Europe to discuss collaborative strategies for peace and stability.

The President’s return comes amid swirling rumors of a possible coup attempt, which the Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has firmly denied. In a statement released Sunday morning, the DHQ described the reports as “false, malicious, and aimed at sowing discord within the nation.” The military reaffirmed its loyalty to the democratic government and emphasized its commitment to national unity.
Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise ahead of the planned #ReleaseNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Monday, October 20. The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an injunction barring activist Omoyele Sowore and others from staging demonstrations near the Presidential Villa and other sensitive locations. The protest seeks the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whose continued detention has sparked legal and political debate.

Legal representatives from the Nnamdi Kanu Defence Consortium argue that the government is violating court orders by keeping Kanu in custody. “The law is clear,” said Barrister Njoku Jude Njoku. “This ongoing detention is not only illegal but a national embarrassment”.
As Nigeria navigates these complex political currents, citizens are urged to remain calm and law-abiding. Security agencies have assured the public of their readiness to maintain peace and order during the coming days.
